We’re Hiring!

Who are we?

Little Big Farm is a small family flower farm growing specialty cut flowers in northwest New Jersey. All of our flowers are field-grown organically using hand tools only (no tractors or tillers) with one small hoop house. Currently we have two acres under cultivation. We sell the majority of our flowers to florists, have a small CSA and farm stand at the farm and also sell buckets of flowers to DIY wedding parties and flower enthusiasts.

In 2022, we are looking to hire an assistant farm manager and a field crew member.

Assistant Farm Manager

This position is a management position that oversees both people and field work. Because we are a small farm, the person in this role will be doing the same field work as the crew (1-3 people) and will have the added responsibility of crew leadership and execution of the crop plan. This person should have a detailed understanding of the farm and an ability to always communicate the overall picture to the crew. A big part of your duties will be keeping an eye on the crew in terms of quality control and efficiency. You’ll be asked to manage field staff on your own, which will require thinking on your feet, making decisions, and communicating instructions effectively to others.

All field crew members, including assistant farm manager, are involved in all aspects of the farm field work: planting, cultivating, irrigation, pest and disease control, mowing, greenhouse management, washing buckets, and especially harvesting flowers. Crew members can expect to gain an understanding of all aspects of running a sustainable flower farm. Some days are full of many varied tasks, while others are more routine (for example, lots of hand-weeding or harvesting). While we have fun, we are also dedicated to staying focused on completing the farming tasks in an efficient manner, regardless of the rain, wind, heat, or sometimes beautiful weather.

Employee is responsible for having a valid driver’s license, housing, reliable transportation to the farm, and appropriate farm clothes/rain gear/boots.

This position is seasonal from April through October 30 hours per week, and 15 hours per week during the months of March and November.

Starting salary is $17 per hour with performance goals set to increase compensation quickly for the right employee.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Farm work experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to make decisions and lead effectively
  • Positive attitude, punctuality, and ability to work quickly and efficiently is a must
  • Able to stand on your feet, lift heavy loads, and do manual labor in all kinds of weather

To Apply: Please send Resume and Letter of Intent to patti.doell@littlebigfarm.com Please put “Assistant Farm Manager Application” in the subject line.

Please Note: This position is not in any way involved in floral design. This is a position dedicated entirely to farming. Do not apply if you expect to be creating floral designs.
