ABOUT TO BLOOM
Summer Annuals

All the special summer annuals are starting to bloom now. Zinnias, cosmos and sunflowers lead the list, but we also love cutting strawflower, yarrow and sea holly. Every year we try to add to the list. This year we added Anthemis or Golden Marguerite daisies (they are in the chamomile family) and Helenium ‘Mardi Gras’ (pictured above) to our list of faves. You can find them in our Flower Club buckets and in our farm stand bouquets. For guaranteed awesome blooms every week you can join our Flower Club. See the link below.

GARDENING TIP
Watering your garden

We recently had a very hot and dry stretch of days here in northwestern NJ. It is very important to keep your plants (and yourself!) well hydrated during these events. Watering in the morning can be a very effective way to set them up for a hard day of harsh heat. This is also where a good layer of mulch can be super effective at keeping the sun from heating up the soil and scorching the roots of the plants. Plants are pretty tough but since they can’t move out of the sun they are relying on us to protect them the best we can. TIP! Get a rain gauge. The average plant needs approximately an inch of water a week to survive - a rain gauge is the best, and cheapest, way to measure the rainfall.

See you at the farm!
