What’s Blooming in Blairstown
January / February 2025
WHAT’S HAPPENING NOW
Tending the Hoop House
We hope you are having a happy and healthy new year so far. It has been so lovely to slow down and take a break from the busyness of farm life for the winter. My body is very grateful! Right now all the plants are doing very well despite the crazy cold temps we have had the last few weeks. Most plants are tucked in under frost cloth and building healthy root systems. Pictured above are baby poppies that were planted in November. They will flower in April and so they are having a nice long winter nap like us (almost 6 months of us taking care of them before they flower!). These are one of my favorite flowers in spring.
ABOUT TO BLOOM

GARDENING TIP
It’s time to start seeds
It’s time to start seeds! We are gearing up to start our seeds here at the farm. This means quite a bit a prep and, as you know, the weather has been quite chilly! We usually try to pick a sunny day and work in the hoop house where it can get quite warm. Before you start your seeds, remember to check your growing zone. It is important to know your “growing zone” so you know your last frost date and hence when to start your seeds. Also remember that the USDA hardiness map has changed recently and we are now in zone 6B here in northwest NJ. Below is a link to find out your zone. You can just type in your zip code and it will tell you your zone. Call or email me if you need help with this. I would be happy to help!
See you at the farm!
